Planning a wedding comes with plenty of questions.
Here are answers to the questions couples ask me most often.

PLANNING & BOOKING
How far in advance should we book?
As soon as you know your date.
I accept bookings up to 12 months in advance. Weekend dates can fill quickly during Charleston’s busiest wedding seasons.
Last-minute requests are always welcome when availability allows.
What happens after we submit an inquiry?
I’ll respond as quickly as possible, with same-day responses whenever I can.
If I’m available, we can schedule a conversation or begin working through your plans.
If I’m already booked, I’ll let you know so you can continue your search.
Are you available for weekday ceremonies?
Yes. I officiate ceremonies seven days a week.
Some ceremony options have different weekday and weekend pricing.
What are your payment policies?
A $50 non-refundable booking fee reserves your date and is credited toward your service fee.
Fifty percent of the remaining balance is due 48 hours before your ceremony.
The final balance may be paid on the day of the event.
I accept cash, checks, and most major credit cards.
What if we need to reschedule or cancel?
If you need to reschedule, I’ll do my best to accommodate your new date based on availability.
For cancellations, payments made beyond the $50 non-refundable booking fee will be refunded.
YOUR CEREMONY
Can we write our own vows?
Absolutely.
You can write personal vows, use traditional wording, or choose something simpler.
I can also provide guidance on structure, timing, and tone.
Do you officiate religious and nonreligious ceremonies?
Yes.
Your ceremony can include scripture, prayer, spiritual elements, secular language, or a combination.
We’ll build the ceremony around what feels appropriate for the two of you.

Can we include readings, traditions, or symbolic elements?
Yes.
Readings, family participation, cultural traditions, unity rituals, blessings, and other meaningful elements can be incorporated.
We’ll discuss what fits naturally into your ceremony.
Will we see our ceremony before the wedding?
For personalized ceremonies, yes.
I’ll share the ceremony with you beforehand so you can review the wording and request appropriate changes.
Do you attend rehearsals?
Yes, when rehearsal participation is included in your ceremony package.
My Formal Ceremony + Rehearsal option includes rehearsal attendance and participation.
For other ceremonies, we’ll review the important details before your wedding day.
What will you wear to our wedding?
I typically wear a dark suit, white dress shirt, and conservative tie.
I’m happy to adjust when your ceremony calls for something different.
Tell me the dress code and overall style, and we’ll make sure my attire fits your day.
MARRIAGE LICENSE & LEGAL QUESTIONS
Are you legally authorized to officiate weddings in South Carolina?
Yes. I am legally authorized to officiate weddings in South Carolina.
I’ll also complete my required portion of your marriage license after the ceremony.
Do you handle the marriage license after our ceremony?
Yes.
After the ceremony, I’ll complete the required officiant paperwork and handle returning the appropriate documents.

Do we need witnesses?
No. South Carolina does not require separate ceremony witnesses to sign your marriage license.
Can someone special to us lead the ceremony?
Yes, in many cases.
A friend or family member can speak or lead meaningful portions of your ceremony.
I can remain present as the legal officiant and handle the required legal portion and paperwork.
We’ll discuss the details beforehand so everyone understands their role.
We already have our marriage license. Can you simply marry us?
Yes.
If you primarily need the legal marriage requirements completed, my Legal Marriage Signing may be the best option.
SERVICES & LOGISTICS
What areas do you serve?
I primarily serve Charleston and the surrounding Lowcountry.
That includes Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Summerville, Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, Kiawah Island, and nearby communities.
Do you travel outside the Charleston area?
Yes.
I’m available to travel beyond my normal Charleston-area service area when scheduling allows.
Additional travel pricing may apply depending on the location.
Do you officiate weddings for all couples?
Yes.
I welcome all couples who are legally entitled to marry.
Your background, identity, beliefs, traditions, or ceremony style do not determine whether I will serve you.

What if we’re planning something unconventional?

I’m open to creative locations, unusual themes, nontraditional formats, and ideas that feel personal to you.
As long as the plan is safe, respectful, and legal, I’m happy to discuss it.
How do we know which ceremony option to choose?
Start with the experience you want.
A Legal Marriage Signing handles the legal requirements.
An Elopement Ceremony works well for smaller, intimate celebrations.
A Classic Ceremony provides more personalization and structure.
Formal Ceremony + Rehearsal adds rehearsal participation for larger or more structured weddings.
